Greener Consoles

Over at Good Clean Tech , the Environmental Protection Agency plans to make gaming consoles more greener by 2010. They want to address the huge power consumption that the Xbox 360, PS3 and the Wii require and implement auto-switch off and low energy network settings.

The Wii apparently uses only very low wattage compared with Xbox 360 or the Playstation 3. This is because no one plays it for long stretched hours or plays it online. You have to input a 16 digit code to hook up with friends online, so there is energy saving right there. Who wants to do that?

As for our beloved Xbox 360, it is by far the most carbon footprint stomper known. Have you seen the beast of a power pack that came with it? This is why it is hidden from ANY promotional shots. Environmentalists would have heart attacks if they saw it, including gamers chomping on a super-sized Big Mac and fries while the game is paused.

There are solutions. First, try a organic salad in a bowl made from fallen pressed leaves. Secondly, paint the console green. If some do goody points that your console is not green, kindly remind them that it is. Thirdly, if you are stuck in a game, don't pause it. Switch it off instead. Sure it won't save the game, but you will be saving more energy re-doing the whole level at some other time.

Lastly, don't play or talk online. It's full of morons anyway. Just play single-player. If someone messages you why you are being an ass, kindly remind them you are saving the environment.
