According to Shack, the PC game Spore, out sells Microsoft Office. Well it would, considering that Office is $125 and Spore is $50. What choice would you make? Game or work, game or work, game...or ....work? Sod it, Spore is cheaper. I'll just write that resume on a piece of paper.
Considering Spore had untold amount of illegal downloads when first released, the figure would have been a lot higher. But as gamers, how many times have we purchased a game instead of buying what we supposed to do? Went to buy shoes for a wedding, came back with a game. Of course no amount of reasoning can justify your purchase except for sod it, it was cheaper. But even that is shaky when confronting a partner or parent.
I remember buying games as a teenager when I should have been buying clothes and getting the exact game from my mom at christmas. There is nothing like getting a game which have already played to death for christmas. It is like major disappointment when you tear the wrapper off. You also have to be shifty and ask for the receipt so you can exchange it. What a pain in the bitch hassle! You also have to play some dumb old game during the two days because all the shops are shut.
This is why I like the idea of digital downloads. You can download a game, if need be deviously, with no one but yourself to justify. Sod it, it is only 4GB you will be saying.
